THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE, In Theaters Friday 9/22!

This post is in partnership with Warner Brothers Pictures and I couldn’t be more excited and grateful. Thank you, Warner Brothers for inviting my family to the Press Junket for THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE. It was one the most amazing experiences I’ve shared with my little man. Our first staycation, at LEGOLAND California, which has been a dream of mine since I became a LEGOLAND California Ambassador. We had full access to LEGOLAND and all the NINJAGO events. From the NINJAGO ride, life-size NINJAGO characters and access to the talent, the memories built at THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE will be in our hearts and mind forever.

Now I have to say, we love the NINJAGO ride at LEGOLAND, so when we found out in the beginning of the year that Warner Brothers would be releasing THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE, I was OVER THE MOON! THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE not only lived up to our expectations but it exceeded it. Allow me to set the stage the night of our screening, here we were, a full theater, kids everywhere that were super excited, waiting for the movie to start and my little one, as loud as he could say, “Mom when is the lego kick-butt action going to begin?” First off my kiddo is 4, I have no idea where he picked up that lingo but I started laughing because I was caught off guard. When I finally composed myself, I asked him why he thinks “Kick butt action will even happen?”, he says, “because the ride is AWESOME!” and just like that, boom, the song popped into my head, “EVERYTHING IS AWESOME,” and yes, I asked him where he picked up that delightful sentence and no answer was given other than, “come on, let’s start the movie.”

The movie starts with Jackie Chan who voices Mr. Lu the wise teacher speaking to a young child and he begins to tell him a story, which leads us right into THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE. Here is where the fairytale begins, filled with mystery, enchantment, all sorts of shenanigans and what the true meaning of friendship and family means. GET READY to laugh, because when I saw this, I was cracking up! THE NINJAGO MOVIE takes place in the Japanese city of Ninjago, located on Ninjago Island, where residents wake up each morning watching, are you ready, wait for it…. Good Morning Ninjago with Lego Michael Strahan and Lego Robin Roberts. Y’all that was the funniest thing for me, seeing Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts as legos, I now want a lego of myself! How can I make this happen?

Dave Franco is the voice of Lloyd, who is bullied and made fun of because he is the son of the evil Garmadon. What Garmadon doesn’t know is that the Green Ninja is his son Lloyd. Garmadon who’s voiced by Justin Theroux shared with us during the interviews, when he read the script he thought it would be funny to mispronounce his son's name Lloyd (even though he named him) because Garmadon is self-centered, nothing phases him. I have to say, it’s ingenious actually because throughout the entire movie I wanted to smack the egomaniac Garmadon whenever he said Lloyd, but at the same time I thought it was funny. KoKo, Lloyd's mother is voiced by Olivia Munn. What stuck with me, I saw Koko as the strong single mom who just wanted her son to be at peace and happy. When we interviewed Oliva, she saw Koko as, “a hero for all but once she had her son she decided to be a hero for one.” This, right here, had me in tears. As a single mom, it’s spot on. You make a conscious decision that nothing else matters other than the well-being of the baby and sacrifices will be made, which Koko did. I will not spoil it for you, but you’ll be in awe when you find out her past. High Jinks ensues when family conflict rise to the surface and when Lloyd decides to use Master Wu's “Ultimate Weapon” on his ridiculously pompous arrogant father. “Ultimate Weapon” is in quotes because once you see what it is, you’ll be blown away by the simplicity and hilarity of it all.

Here’s the thing, the writers, director, and the entire cast nailed their parts perfectly, They had you laughing, teary-eyed and routing for Lloyd and wishing that Garmadon would understand that parenting is a full-time job. The movie not only addresses father and son issues, but a few more that would make it limiting for any film to transition, but not THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE. In reality it’s extremely difficult to switch from funny to sincere but the filmmakers NAILED IT! We loved THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE, so much so we’ve seen it twice. This is a must-see movie, don't miss it on the big screen this weekend. Below you'll find links to get your little one engaged and part of the action.
