The House with a Clock in Its Walls is the PERFECT Halloween movie!

Thank you Universal Pictures for inviting me to a pre-screening of The House with a Clock in its Walls. The House with a Clock in Its Walls will not only kickstart Halloween but it will have your young ones falling in love with horror movies. Had a chance to speak with Eli Roth and his main goal was to create a PG Horror movie for kids 8+. “All of my friends who have kids were saying, ‘What is your version of a kids’ movie?’ ” said Roth. “I wanted to do a film that, if you love scary movies and you want your kids to love scary movies, this is the gateway. If you show a child Hostel, it’s going to traumatize them and they’ll never watch another scary movie. You’ve got to ease them into it.”

Eli Roth’s resume of successful movies is ranges from, Cabin Fever (2002 film), Death Wish (2018 film), The Green Inferno (film), Grindhouse (film), Hostel (2005 film), Hostel: Part II, The House with a Clock in Its Walls (film) and Knock Knock (2015 film). Imagine all this under his belt and now, he wants to create a movie that will set the path for children horror movies. He’s absolutely brilliant!

Based on the 1973 novel by John Bellairs, The House With a Clock in Its Walls was the perfect story for Roth, it represents a way to pay homage to some of his own formative childhood influences when he created it into a motion picture and taking it to Steven Spielberg’s Universal-based Amblin Entertainment.

“The movies that mattered to me as a kid were films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Time Bandits, The Goonies, Gremlins, E.T., Poltergeist,” he said. “These were your first scary experiences in a theatre where it’s got that little bit of danger and generally, kids are at the forefront of the adventure, but you could see them with your parents and your parents would also love them. I weirdly feel like that’s a lost art now.”

If you want to see a movie that will entertain you the ENTIRE time, have you at the edge of your seat and prep you for Halloween, this is the PERFECT movie. We loved it, I will say the movie is targeted at 8+-year-olds but I would suggest 13+-year-olds. Some of the scenes are downright freaky it will have you catching your breath.

TIn the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.

Based on the beloved children’s classic written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, The House with a Clock in Its Walls is directed by master frightener Eli Roth and written by Eric Kripke (creator of TV’s Supernatural). Co-starring Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic, it is produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer (Shutter Island) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), as well as Kripke. Executive produced by William Sherak, Tracey Nyberg and Laeta Kalogridis, The House with a Clock in Its Walls will be released by Universal Pictures.
