Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review.
Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's shenanigans as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's mission to find his father. As they continue their quest, the team's adventures leads them to travel the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together and overcome hurdles. Old enemies become new allies and fan-favorite characters will come to our heroes' aid.
The theme of the first movie was about bringing the team together, camaraderie, and the sequel is about family, the importance of loved ones and the roles individuals play in their lives. Their journey involves splitting up the team for their own personal missions. Gamora and Drax join Peter when he goes off with Ego and Mantis. Rocket and Groot end up paired with Yondu and Nebula. The Guardians trying to stay one step ahead of the Sovereign and the team of Ravagers hired to kill them is the main story line. However what'll tug at your heart strings is when Peter Quill meets his father. At the start of the movie, you see Kurt Russell’s, Ego, relationship blossom with Peter Quill's mom. Fast forward to Ego showing up and introducing himself to his son. Here's the conundrum, even in real life, if you meet your biological parent that doesn't mean that all of a sudden you’re whole, that your heart will be filled with peace. You have to come to terms with your childhood, accepting your parents/parent before being able to move on to find harmony. In Peter Quill's case, the question remains whether meeting his genetic father fills the emptiness that was left in absence of Star-Lord’s life, and whether or not that gap had already been filled by people like Yondu, Gamora and the rest of the Guardians.
While Peter Quill's character is coming to terms with what’s set before him and soaking in his father, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) finally gets a hold of her sister Nebula (Karen Gillan), and the hate between them is strong. Rocket (Bradley Cooper) the gang’s resident bully, hasn’t changeda bit. Drax (Dave Bautista) becomes the subject of the socially awkward advances of empath Mantis (Pom Klementieff) which is hilarious, and Groot (Vin Diesel) is going through the motions of being a toddler protected by the Guardians family and YES, Groot stole the show. He will forever hold a place in my heart. I hope that they always keep him child like, he’s so darn adorable. Get ready to download the only soundtrack you’ll be listening to forever, the music is literally out of this world. From Fleetwood Mac to Cat Stevens and everything in between, it’s spectacular.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is as funny as the original, well thought out, great one liners and bound to entertain you. You’ll leave looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! ~Peter Quill and his fellow Guardians are hired by a powerful alien race, the Sovereign, to protect their precious batteries from invaders.
