Despicable Me 3

Say "Aloha" to the Minions. Despicable Me 3 hits theaters June 30th

Thank you, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment for inviting us to a mega fun pre-screening event at the Ipic Theater for Despicable Me 3. Our morning started with our favorite pastry Chef Jeffrey "Duff" Goldman who showed our kiddos how to design cupcakes with their favorite minion. The energy in the room was intoxicating, kids excited, moms laughing, and most importantly the anticipation of watching our favorite movie returning on the big screen was, electrifying. Shout out to Kellogg's, Yummy Spoonful and Bounty paper towels who sponsored the morning event. Thank you Kellogg's for feeding us a delicious breakfast, Yummy Spoonful, teaching us how to make healthy shakes (which my kiddo loved, see pic) and Bounty, the type of mess that we left behind, no other paper towel would have been able to clean up, wowzer.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment I’m grateful for allowing us access to Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and Pharrell to discuss DM3. Steve and Kristen are exactly how you’d imagine them to be, funny, light hearted and sweet. Steve and Kristen had asked us if we’d seen the movie and if there were kids in the theater, most importantly what were the kids reactions? I mentioned to them not only had we seen the movie in the morning but we all took our kids, it was hilarious. My son loved the movie so much, that, that night he was talking in his sleep saying, “Gru watch out.” Talk about lasting impression!

Pharrell with his kind heart, whose soft spoken, is a powerhouse! I had a chance to ask him about his charity organization, From One Hand To Another, had they chosen a few kids to pre-screen the movie? His humility is breathtaking and humbling. Pharrell responded, “From One Hand To Another is an organization that we started some years ago. I don’t remember exactly, maybe 10 years ago, and it’s grown into after school programs. Right now it’s summer camps and we’ve teamed up with Apple to do it. The basis of learning is based on STEAM, which is science, technology, engineering, my mom added art in there, and math. It’s to help kids get ahead with education, tutoring and help them with supplies. From One Hand To Another is doing really well, I think we did 50 schools this year, or 50 areas, next year it’ll be exponentially more. But in terms of me, it was my idea and concept and the most that I try to do is galvanize, just be the siren for it, but I’m not in there doing the really hard work. The hard work is being done by my mom, the staff, and loads of college students who are there to volunteer to tutor. They’re doing the really hard work, they’re really the ones who hold the building together. And so, I didn’t pick, but I’m sure they’re going to pick which kids will go see the film. In regards to the the new music, especially “Yellow Light,” we asked about the underlying message and he was moved that we heard the deeper meaning, and he’d like other people to have that same experience and discovery as we did.

I love the Despicable Me franchise, it’s endearing, lovable and filled with motivational messages for all ages. Despicable Me 3 doesn’t break from tradition (thank you Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment) it’s happy go lucky theme, family values, is the very core of the movie. In Despicable Me 1 reformed super-villain Gru (Steve Carell) agrees to change his way for his three newly adopted daughters. Then, in Despicable Me 2 Gru meets his soul mate Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig), and they get married. And now, Despicable Me 3 Gru discovers his long-lost twin brother, Dru, this will leave you wanting to hug Gru tighter than ever.

Despicable Me 3 takes us on a musical journey in an era where the music was authentic, full of life, and legends were made, the 80’s! Let me tell you the soundtrack to this movie is AH-MAZING!!! There is nothing comparable to 80’s music, nothing, You’ll be singing in your seat while your little one looks at you like, “Mom how do you know the words?.” Awh if they only knew that this was our music, that this was the background music to our own lives. DM3 villain is a disgruntled former child star named Balthazar Bratt (voiced by “South Park” co-creator Trey Parker) who everyone knows from a show called “Evil Bratt,” Balthazar wears shoulder pads and pump sneakers, tossing bubble-gum bombs and break-dancing his way through heists. Then there's our beloved Minions, who’s mischievous devilish characters make us laugh just by being on screen, have grown tired of their good behavior and want to return to a life of evil doing. Following the lead of Mel, they all agree to leave and find their own path of trouble causing, rucas creating banana ways. From crashing a “Sing”-style talent competition or making trouble in prison you’ll find yourself laughing out loud and routing for them.

DM3 underlying messages, family will always be family, no matter what. We stick together thru thick and thin, we, as an individual are independent, inevitably we all grow, however, we don’t grow apart. It’s crucial to find your own path, voice, and autonomy to evolve, and when you do, you’ll find yourself discovering who your true friends are and knowing you’ll always be there for one another. Families consist of friends whom we’ve chosen to share our lives with, and most importantly families come together in different ways. It’s vital for kids to learn this lesson and to see Gru started off as a single man, adopted three daughters, met a woman who loves him and the kids, then they get married and he's surrounded by those who love him. Life is what we make it to be, if you choose to be happy, surround yourself with love, be open to new and exciting opportunities like Gru than you’ll find yourself filled with an abundance of love and contentment. We'll do anything for the ones we love, because you know that their happiness means the world, more so than your own.

“Grab someone you love/There’s something special on the other side of this moment/And it’s about what you and I decide/And it’s important for you to remember we did this together/And finally, they’ll know the story of our lives,” a heartfelt and warm message that is not only the running theme of the movie but Pharrell hit song for DM3 sings about family ties, titled “There’s Something Special,” Pharrell has contributed five new songs to the soundtrack. Once again, you will love the soundtrack as much as the movie.
