Peter Rabbit Family Fiesta for Earth Day

To celebrate Earth Day and the Digital release of Peter Rabbit, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment partnered with Slow Food USA and schools in New York City and Los Angeles to launch school and community gardens.

In New York City, DIY Network gardening expert and host, Sara Bendrick, led efforts to plant East Harlem elementary school, P.S. 108’s, inaugural school garden. The program kicked off on Friday April 20, with P.S. 108 hosting a “Peter Rabbit Earth Day” assembly for 140 kids. The assembly featured a lesson on how to recycle milk cartons and plastic bottles for indoor gardening activities, and a screening of bonus content from the home entertainment edition including the “Flopsy-Turvy” mini-movie and the “Shake Your Cotton-Tail Dance Along”. The Peter Rabbit costume character and Sara Bendrick then visited classrooms teaching kids how to plant a starter carrot garden with seeds, soil, and recycled milk cartons.

On Saturday April 21, Sara Bendrick and Peter Rabbit returned to P.S. 108 to help build the garden beds for their first ever school garden. The day featured activities for kids, families, and volunteers from the Nature Conservancy, transforming their asphalt playground into a colorful school garden. To close out the day, Sara Bendrick and Peter Rabbit lead the first planting activity in the new garden beds, showing the kids and volunteers how to plant lettuce seeds.

Over in Los Angeles, Peter Rabbit and The Garden School Foundation teamed up to teach kids about gardening during Fiesta de la Huerta (Garden Party) at the 24th Street Elementary School. Over 100 kids were in attendance alongside influential parenting bloggers with their families who shared videos and photos on their social channels highlighting the morning full of fun. Activities included a Peter Rabbit costume character, green screen photo opp, screening of the exclusive Peter Rabbit mini movie, carrot seed planting demonstration and much more. Additional partners CAVA, Thrive Market and SeaSnacks provided lunch and educational activities for all in attendance.
