Now I’m not saying turn off your lights and sit in the dark, instead spend some quality time with the family, go for a walk, play a board game, take the pup for a walk, anything other than being connected. Now not only will you spend some quality time with the family but you’ll be saving on your electric bill!

Ohm Connect is an online service that will reward you in cash and prizes for reducing your energy consumption during specific times of day that it calls #OhmHours.

#OhmHours is when the energy grid is overworking and must rely on dirty power plants to prevent a blackouts. This typically occurs once or twice a week in the afternoons or evenings.

#OhmConnect works by connecting your utility, all PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E customers are eligible. Their service is free, and there is no added charged to your utility plan, and you can opt-out at any time.

So how do you know the energy grid is in overdrive? Ohm Connect sends you text or email notifications when #OhmHours are in effect. That’s your cue to reduce your electricity use for about an hour by turning off lights and appliances or delaying your laundry or dish-washing duties. Connect a smart device, like a wifi plug or thermostat, to Ohm Connect and automate your #OhmHours so you save more!
