Thank you Warner Brothers for hosting us at the Smallfoot pre-screening and press junket. We had the opportunity to speak with Director Karey Kirkpatrick, Common (Stonekeeper) and Channing Tatum (Migo). Not only did we see the movie twice, which we were clearly crazy over but after speaking with Common and Channing we loved the movie even more if that was possible.
I wanted to know what Channing and Common wanted families to take away from the movie since there were so many learning opportunities.
Q: Hello Common and Channing, thank you for being here with us today. I have to say we’ve seen the movie twice now and are in love. What do you want families to walk away learning from the movie?
Channing Tatum: That Common can basically rap anything and make it sound amazing.
Common: They need to know that Channing is a great singer now.
BelAirMommie: Yes.
Common: He’s ready to put out an album. Channing Tatum: That was James Corden. I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Common: No. Yes. Okay. But, we really--I think the thought that it’s okay to think for yourself and to question things that you’re being told because, you know, as kids especially, we inherit so many things that we say this is what should be done and this is how it’s done. But, even as adults, too, we hear that. And it’s, you know, the only way to actually get to some progress is to challenge those things sometimes because if we keep doing the same things we’ve been doing over and over, then we’ll never get to the place of, like, okay, how do we break past this wall if we don’t challenge those things. So, I think finding the truth, and speaking that truth, and believing in that truth, and not being afraid to share that truth is, I think, one of the great messages we have in this movie.
Channing Tatum: And accepting the truth is hard, you know, sometimes. And change is kind of scary, but if you kind of accept that about it, it doesn’t have to be that scary. It can be a joyous thing. It doesn’t have to be some, like, big, bad monster that’s going to just, like, wreck everything. It will give you the courage to be true to yourself.
Smallfoot is not only a great animation but I can say with confidence that it will have the number one song by Zendaya, “Wonderful Life.” This song will become embedded in your everyday life, it’s truly "Wonderful". Go in knowing this is a family movie and everyone in the family will take away something from it. This will be one of the movies that as soon as it’s out on digital you’ll download it. It’s uplifting, full of joy, life and laughter. Thank you Warner Brothers for including us, we can’t thank you enough it was everything and more.

An animated adventure for all ages, with original music and an all-star cast, “Smallfoot” turns a myth upside down when a bright young yeti finds something he thought didn’t exist—a human.
News of this “smallfoot” throws the simple yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village, in an all new story about friendship, courage and the joy of discovery.
“Smallfoot” stars Channing Tatum (“The LEGO® Batman Movie,” the “Jump Street” films) as the yeti, Migo, and James Corden (“Trolls,” “The Emoji Movie”) as the Smallfoot, Percy. Also starring are Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”), Common (“Selma”), LeBron James (upcoming “Space Jam 2”), Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”), Danny DeVito (“The Lorax,” Oscar nominee for “Erin Brockovich”), Yara Shahidi (TV’s “Black-ish”), Ely Henry (TV’s “Justice League Action”), and Jimmy Tatro (“22 Jump Street”).
“Smallfoot” is directed by Karey Kirkpatrick, Annie Award-winning director of “Over the Hedge” and Annie nominee for the screenplays for “Chicken Run” and “James and the Giant Peach” and co-directed by Jason Reisig. The screenplay is by Kirkpatrick and Clare Sera, screen story by John Requa & Glenn Ficarra and Kirkpatrick, based on the book Yeti Tracks, by Sergio Pablos.
The film is produced by Bonne Radford (“Curious George”), Glenn Ficarra (“Storks,” “This is Us,”) and John Requa (“Storks,” “This is Us”). Serving as executive producers are Nicholas Stoller, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Jared Stern, Karey Kirkpatrick, Sergio Pablos, Courtenay Valenti, and Allison Abbate. The creative team includes editor Peter Ettinger, and composer Heitor Pereira. “Smallfoot” is set to debut in theaters September 28, 2018.
