Thank you, Universal for inviting me to interview Eli Roth and Nathan Barr, Brad Fischer, Eli Roth and Owen Vaccoro of The House with a Clock in Its Walls.

Now if you know me well you know I’m an epic baby when it comes to scary movies, however when I met Eli Roth a few months ago and he explained that the movie is geared for kids 8 and up, I thought, I could do this, it’s for kids. Boy was I wrong, I'm an EPIC scaredy cat. House with A Clock in Its Walls is not only entertaining it’s suspenseful! So many topics are touched upon in the storyline, my favorite one that I hope all kids walk away learning, be yourself. If you’re quirky, weird, anything that makes you slightly different it’s ok, it’s more than ok, embrace it, own it, be you. We are all special, most importantly in order to work thru any issue in your life, you have to work through it. Push through, face your fears head on because nothing is as terrifying as we make it in our mind, it will work out.

Now, let’s talk about the props that scared the bejesus out of me and let me tell you, they are just as creepy in person. But before I tell you all about the spooky, I met the “chair” from the film who’s a beloved character that’s comparable to the family dog. The “chair” was part animatronic and part operated like a puppet by people on set, amazing! The automatons were from various places including antique shops, some made from scratch for the film, and some, from Steven Spielberg’s personal collection of automatons.

House With A Clock in its Walls was filmed with practical effects rather than CGI. A practical effect is a special effect produced physically, without computer-generated imagery or other post-production techniques. This is exactly why this fantasy horror movie was unique and truly, exquisitely produced.

Even the music behind the film has a spectacular story, they utilized an organ that takes up 5 rooms in its entirety that Barr spent years restoring (it was even the very same organ used for The Sound of Music.)

When I spoke to Eli, Nathan, Brad, and Owen, the running theme was, dance, dance wherever you are and have fun. You’ll see what I’m talking about when you watch the behind the scenes on the DVD, Owen is constantly dancing, the crew is laughing, not only was it fun on set but they’ve all become family.

Ten-year-old Lewis goes to live with his oddball uncle in a creaky old house that contains a mysterious `tick tock' noise. He soon learns that Uncle Jonathan and his feisty neighbour, Mrs Zimmerman, are powerful practitioners of the magic arts.
