TOM & JERRY THE MOVIE opens this Friday, February 26th in-theaters and on HBO Max!

Thank you HBO, HBO MAX FOR inviting me to the virtual press junket of TOM & JERRY with Director Tim Story.

Tim Story signed off on the Tom & Jerry comedy in 2018, he did so in part because he wanted a project he could show to his then-7-year-old son, how epic is that!

We discussed Tom & Jerry stars Chloë Grace Moretz and Michael Peña who come across the our beloved childhood characters at their luxurious hotel workplace. What could go wrong?

EVERYTHING! I won’t spoil the movie for you, so you may read on.

I asked Mr. Story about the Indian Wedding in the movie, the significance of it and how he got it pretty spot on.

In the trailer, the hotel where Moretz’s and Peña’s work is the venue of mega wedding for a very famous couple. The film Indian wedding is opulent, over the top and filled with hilarious moments of pure chaos. As Mr. Story puts it, “We know we broke a few rules here and there, but we tried to keep as good as we could!” Mr. Story elaborates, “By having actor Pallavi [Sharda, who plays the bride] and a writer Vijay who was there for a little while, we were able to lean on them and learn, and know where we can bend the rules. In doing the research, I saw how much this expression of culture was also lavish and colourful. I just had so much fun being over-the-top in some situations, it gave me freedom to be creative and entertaining.”

Watch the compete interview below, I praise Mr. Story for his inclusiveness, representation matters and the Indian tradition was presented with elegance and beauty, that is until Tom & Jerry broke out into their shenanigans.

I will leave you with an extremely exciting scene and the secret behind it. No wedding is complete without a cake. In the case of Tom & Jerry they had four cakes. It includes one cake made of styrofoam and frosting for all of the aesthetic shots, and three cakes made specifically to be destroyed (think of a smash cake). “The top two layers were made of cheesecake,” this was so cake could go flying when Ken Jeong chases Jerry. I have to be honest, after seeing that scene, never in my life have I ever wanted to smash a cake so badly!

Make sure to tune in, TOM & JERRY opens in-theaters and on HBO Max Friday, February 26th.

TOM & JERRY THE MOVIE opens this Friday, February 26th in-theaters and on HBO Max

Synopsis:

One of the most beloved rivalries in history is reignited when Jerry moves into New York City’s finest hotel on the eve of “the wedding of the century,” forcing the event’s desperate planner, Kayla, to hire Tom to get rid of him, in director Tim Story’s “Tom and Jerry.” The ensuing cat and mouse battle threatens to destroy her career, the wedding and possibly the hotel itself. But soon, an even bigger problem arises: a diabolically ambitious staffer conspiring against all three of them.
